BOTOX ®Cosmetic Injections

BOTOX® Cosmetic Injections for Wrinkles:
BOTOX®, a bacterial  product,  is useful to limit  the  activity of certain overactive  facial  muscles  which  lead  to  unwanted deep wrinkles.   Originally  used for the treatment of crossed eyes, BOTOX®   is now used  to limit  the action of muscles of the face, which cause  frown lines of the nose and  forehead, crows   foot   lines,  and   wrinkles  around   the   mouth.   The mechanism  of  action  is  reversible  weakness of  targeted muscles. The injections are relatively painless,  when done   slowly,  and  show   their  effect  within  7  days,   lasting  3 - 6  months in most patients.  BOTOX®, in the small doses  used  for cosmetic muscle  relaxation is  very safe,  and  effective.   Side   effects   are  minimal,   and   complications,   such  as allergic  reactions,  are   rare.   When   BOTOX®  is  used  on specific   muscles  around   the  eyes,  and  over   the  lower forehead, the results can mimic  the  results  of  a  browlift  in  patients     without     marked     excess     skin.     Photos    of   representative   patients   are   shown   below.

Photos Before and After:

Case 1:         A 40 year old with wrinkles over the nose  and mid brow, along with crows  foot  lines  is  shown  before  and one   week  after  injection  with  BOTOX® The inability  to create the wrinkles over the  nose  and  the crows foot lines  after the injections are demonstrated at right.  As   a   bonus,    her   frequent   Migraine headaches   have   disappeared  since the   injections,   as   has  been  recently reported.
Browlift-like result  is seen after BOTOX® injection  into  forehead  and nasal frown lines, and the crows foot line areas,  with elevation of the brows.  This is because the  orbital  muscles  which normally pull the corners of the brow down have been temporarily  paralyzed  by  the  BOTOX®, relieving  the   crows  foot  lines  as  well.
Case 2:      A 34 year old  animating the forehead and nasal line wrinkles before and  after  BOTOX®  injections  into  frown lines,   forehead,   and   crows  foot   line areas.  Note inability to create the same furrows  in the  photo  at right,  taken  one week  after  the  BOTOX®.
Photos    before    and    after   BOTOX® injection, show  improved  definition  of  the   upper   lids,    as   the   brows   are elevated  after selectively  weakening  facial  muscles around the  orbits  and forehead, mimicking  a  Browlift.   Note  smoothing  of   the  skin   of  the  upper  lids  by  un-opposed  upward   pull  on   the   outer  aspects  of  the  brows.
