E-Mail Correspondence with Dr. DeWire is Welcomed
Dr. DeWire will personally answer e-mail queries, however some understanding  of  the process is necessary in  order  to  submit a question  that   will  receive  a  reply.    Every  attempt  is  made  to answer e-mails in a timely fashion, however, the volume of e-mail received necessarily requires that  I assign a  priority order to the messages.   Also, certain  facts  will  allow you to  more efficiently make queries.  Please keep in mind that e-mail correspondence is  available  as  a  convenience,  but  is  not  to  be used  for  any 

 

  communication  that  is  felt  to  be  urgent,   or  of  an  emergency nature.    Phone   communication   is   most   appropriate   in   that instance.     Please  also  understand  that  e-mail  is  not  a 100% secure mode of communication, and though the e-mail is secure once received on my computer,  there  may be ways to intercept e-mail as it is routed via the various  mail  servers on the internet. The likelihood of such diversion of e-mails is very low,  however. Please review the site Terms of Use  and HIPAA Privacy Notice.

  • E-mail is not considered to be secure communication, and though I am the only one who can access and handle e-mail sent to me, there are apparently ways which e-mail can be intercepted by hackers, etc. I do not know of any problem, to date, in this regard.

    E-mails must be signed with full first and last name to allow for filing, and unsigned e-mails will not be considered.

    • Active patient files are kept permanently (those who have had surgery)
    • Inactive files are discarded after 60-90 days with no correspondence

  • Please state the topic or area  of concern in the Subject line of your e-mail

  • Ethics prevent comment to patients who are under the active post-op care of another surgeon as I am not privy to the plan or technique that was used, and cannot offer guidance.

Appointments for consultation or combined surgery visits cannot be arranged by e-mail, as mutual time availability must be assured.  E-mails are kept on a separate computer in my home, and are not taken to the office unless scheduling has been requested.
