| Following significant weight loss, there is often failure of the stretched skin to tighten up. Restoring the normal contour of many body areas following weight loss often requires removal or tailoring of the remaining skin. Especially true for the abdomen, arms, and thighs, the restoration of the contours of those areas often requires the excision of large amounts of skin, with or without additional liposuction. | Photos below display Medial Thigh Lift in a patient who lost almost 100 pounds after a gastric bypass procedure. Except in the case of the abdomen, where the scars are completely hidden, these excision techniques frequently result in significant visible scarring as a trade-off for the contour improvement. These scars are positioned to minimize their visibility, and will fade somewhat with time. | |
